The Tempest by William Shakespeare - Read through

Director Nicole Davall

Prospero, the lost Duke of Milan, uses magic to conjure a storm to shipwreck a boat carrying his usurping brother, Antonio, and the King of Naples (amongst others).

Prospero’s slave Caliban takes the opportunity to join up with two victims of the shipwreck, Trinculo and Stephano, in an attempt to take over the Island. But they are thwarted by the spirit Ariel under Prospero’s command. Meanwhile Ferdinand, son of the King of Naples, falls in love with Prospero’s daughter, Miranda. Their courtship is cut short when Prospero confronts his brother and reasserts his position as the rightful Duke of Milan. Families are re-united and all conflict is apparently resolved.

Join us at the Ice Factory Studio Theatre, Somerset Place for a read through and auditions of Shakespeare’s Tempest, directed by Nicole Davall. The production will be staged at The Ice Factory from Tuesday 18th to Saturday 22nd February 2020.

We are looking for a cast of 13-15 people. There are a number of roles which could potentially be gender swapped. The roles that will most likely not be gender swapped are Prospero, Miranda, Ferdinand, Sebastian and probably Caliban. Everything else is up for grabs. We also need a mix of young and old.

Nicole directed the Players’ Romeo and Juliet, which became the highest grossing production for 2019 at the Ice Factory so far, with sell out houses.

The read through – Tuesday 1st October at 7.30.
First audition – Sunday 6th October at 2.30
Second audition – Wednesday 9th October at 7.30
